03-29-06: Our Day at the BSA

Long but fruitful day at the BSA. From 10:00am to 4:30pm (40-min. break for lunch) we had a GREAT show of community/grassroots support and were joined by our elected officials (Councilman DeBlasio, Councilman Avella, representatives from Councilwoman Gonzalez, State Assemblyman Brennan, State Senator Montgomery and Congresswoman Velazquez) and fellow advocacy/community-based groups (Community Board 7 Chair Randy Peers, Historic Districts Council, Municipal Arts Society, The Committee to Save the Vista, Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance and ACORN). All said NO VESTING TO ALL 6 PROPERTIES!

Standing room only at the BSA 03.29.06

Standing room only!

Representatives of the DOB were also there, to address questions and take said questions back to the DOB for answers.

WE PACKED THE ROOM the room (for the first three pre-break properties). Not sure how many seats the conference room holds, but it was standing room only and it must have been well over 100 folks in the room.

The community was prepared, with well-timed testimony in hand (or sent the week before); the developers’ attorneys were not, as evidenced by the amount of stern questions put by the BSA to them, as well continued hearing dates set for late April and early May (to allow the attorneys to gather documentation to rebut the questions posed by the BSA and community).

New hearing dates are set for all properties, either April 11, April 25 or May 2, 2006. All are on Tuesday mornings at the BSA, 40 Rector Street, 6 floor at 10:00 AM.

Specific sites and hearing dates to be posted soon. To review the BSA calendar, click here.
